Objective of the HPN Women IT Park

The social impacts growing unemployment have now began to reflect upon the environment, as there has been a substantial increase in city people who migrate back to the country side and put pressure on agricultural land. The negative impacts have been attributed not oly at socio-economic but spread at ecological levels too.
As Nepal prepares its free entry in the free world women empowerment shall also contribute to the growing unemployment problem. IT Park for Women hall be a green signal for investment. It will be aid in exploring and exploiting the potentialities of the women and give them a competitive edge for the self dependence.

 Programme  Background:
Computer is a boom industry in today's society and form a part of nearly every job on offer. In any era of internet and computerization, most people are required to use computers as part of their activities. HPN information technology aims to equip women with technical and professional skills that are useful and relevant to one's career, anywhere in the world.

HPN aims to offer women a range of choices in computing programs to provide a wide range of career options. With study areas including computer software development, information technology management, computer systems, applied computer science and networking, HPN aims to provide one of the most sought-after computing programmes for which IT Park for women shall be established.

The computer trainings shall be given by IT professional and instructors with various specializations.

 

HPN- Women IT Park in Nepal (WIPN)
(First of its kind in Nepal)

1. Introduction:
Helping Point Nepal is the government registered non-governmental organization established under the law of Nepal in the year 1997. It has the prime objective of improving the living standard of child and women in Nepal. With this objective, it has now aim to provide IT facilities to the needy women around the country.
HPN now has come a long way from its inception and the organization is moving in a very positive direction. It shall now consolidate its position as one of the prestigious social organization with the initiation of IT Park for Women in the near future. It will mobilize its member around the country to attain its cherish goals.
Several members of HPN inside and outside the country have devoted a lot of time and energy, apart from monetary contributions, to help the HPN in carrying out child and women related social activities.
This organization has the belief of fostering fraternity and respect for each other's strength and abilities. Promoting a sense of women empowerment among the HPN members and the society is one of the major purposes behind the establishment of HPN IT PARK.

With these computing Skills a Trainee shall have a wide range of Career opportunities in the areas of Computer Analysis/Programming Computer System and teaching. Trainees will be able to design and modify  software of large size and complexity .Using modern software  Engineering tools in a variety of Operating environments and domains, eg net working, graphical user interface and database systems Trainees may be eligible for membership of various computing societies.

Program focus:
With the recent development of internet computing technology, the demand for professional in networking, web based software and system administration is certain to increase in the future. The networking major aims to equip trainees with the skills required to manage networks of computers which exist in nearly all modern organization. Upon completing the course, one will be able to design, install, configure, and maintain such networks and the systems that operate on them.
Career Opportunities:
A trainee will be employable in the field of intra and internetworking, network design, network architecture  and network administration.

 

5. IT Status of Women in NEPAL

Today, man has already stepped in the 21st century, which is the age of science and technology. He has acquired all sorts of luxuries and amenities in his life and his wishes are still at the extremity. Still, we can't claim that human life if fully of comforts, man/women has to face.

Still, the third world countries are far behind in receving the lastest of technological advancement. In these countries too, men literacy rate is high with respect to women. Men have dominated the society. Women education including IT courses is a must need. The only about 12% women have got opportunity in communicational area. Most of them are agriculture labour and households.. IT status  of women in Nepal is insignificant.

The above table suggest to build up the better position of women to make them self reliant providing them prospective IT training.
It's a high time to raise the living standard of women through the destined occupation. Women empowerment will definitely be a helping hand  to decrease the unemployment problems. It shall make women more open and competitive so that they would earn a better life situation after the completion of full length training.
The countries where women are educated and forward give a overall consciousness standard of those countries. Women will be free of their mind so their real potential can be utilized through IT sector thus helping the nation in a promising manner.
If we have good women, we will have a great civilization.

6. Goal:
The commitment to knowledge, advancement of learning, these should be our straight goals. This shall lead to our promising goal of providing IT facilities to the needy women of our country.

7. Education:
The true friend of education is an enfranchised human being, a being who is free from all prejudices and presuppositions and looks upon all as kith and kin.
Science has come to assume through the centuries, a new character altogether. We are all anxious to see that after the political freedom. This mean the application of science and technology to the actual  endeavour of raising the standards of our people.

8. Support of Non Government Organisations in the field of Science & technology:
Non Government Organisations in the field of Science & technology are contributing to the building up of a world community. They are mainly educating the children and women to create a new climate of thought and behaviour making them self reliant.
Any work is ephemeral and doomed unless we have co-operation, compassion and sacrifice. Keeping this in view HPN is mainly concentrated on lobbying for specific causes and action oriented programs relating to the cause of child and women empowerment.
Increasing priority is being given the HPN to programs dealing with social implications of structural adjustment , human resources development population activities, advancement of women, drug abuse control, national wide scholarship to children, application of science and technology to development. IT training for women shall be help in modernizing the communication facilities, meet their housing needs and promote urban planning and rural development.

9. HPN Target groups:
HPN has  major programs  geared to major target  groups- women and children. It shall conduct the programs relating the social aspect of developments and economic change. HPN work shall be guided by two underlying concerns:

  • To improve the living standard of the women  and children.
  • To increase their participation in development.

HPN work is usually carried out in collaboration with  local NGOs and INGOs. HPN has a deep interest in the problems of women and children. It has generally sought to secure more equal employment opportunities for women and to remedy some of the legal disabilities from which women suffer in our country. Therefore, IT Park for Women shall be a proper way out to solve the burning issues of women
10.    Implementation Strategies of HPN-Women IT Park:

  • The overall in-charge of the HPN Women IT Park will be the Helping Point Nepal, Kathmandu.
  • The HPN shall obtain financial support for technical assistance as well as monetary fund through  the main contributor.
  • IT training shall be advertised in daily newspapers.
  • A building (two flats) shall be taken in rent.
  • Selections of candidates can be done according to age group, qualification and areas of interest.
  • IT instructors shall be selected through the decision body of HPN executive head and main contributor.
  • Main contributor can recommend the right place for HPN-Women IT Park keeping in view of serving the women in every corner.
  • HPN executive head and main contributor shall decide the financial budget and other related decisions which may come along during the  training session.
  • Main contributor shall be regarded as the patron of the project.
  • The project duration shall be of 1 year1.
  • The participation of the trainees will be free of cost.
  • The training shall be given to  150 women in the following category.

11. Evaluation and Monitoring
IT Project shall be overlooked by HPN executive heads and the main contributor. The main contributor shall be regarded as the Patron of the Project. Time to time inspection shall be made by HPN executive heads and main contributor. Every progress report shall be made and any kind of necessary change shall be done through the decision body. The contributor may refer to any change of rules and regulations in course of the projects.
