About NSP

Nationwide Scholarship Program (NSP) run by HPN NEPAL. It is established on Dec 30, 2003.The chief guest of the announcement program was honourable Minister

for Physical Planning & Works, Population & Environment and General Administration Buddhi Man Tamang. He inaugurated NSP on 30 Dec, 2003 at Birendra >International Convention Center, New Baneshwor, Kathmanu Nepal. In the same program, the chief guest honourable Minister Buddhiman Tamang felicated by honour >certificates and medals to PE Mr. Mohan B. Dangi, PhD Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Ronald H. Cohen, PhD, Professor, Colorado School of Mines, Mr. Ang Temba Sherpa, World Glidder Specialist and Modeling, Mr. L. P. Pandey, Principal , Societal School P. Ltd. & SEBS ((Society of Ex-Buddanilkantha Students )- a >social organization, working in the field of education) for their significant role to Nepal and Nepalese. PE Mr. Mohan Dangi handover the cheque of Rs.2,20,000 to honourable Minister Tamang and honourable minister to HPN Chairman Mr. Kamal P. Bhattarai to establish the nationwide scholarship program.

Now, NSP has started to provide scholarship in Okhaldhunga , Dang & Kathmandu district as a sample and now launching nationwide.

HPN NEPAL requests national & international, individuals and organizations to take part in this literary programs. This organization evaluates your help & co-operation. Your small help heals the hearts of hundreds & hundreds.


NSP Funding Provision
Sponsorship (Funding) Provision :
1. Sponsor a Student : The Minimum contribution is US$ 63.82 or Nepali NRs. 5,000 which ever applicable (per year) The sponsor is allotted specific student (S).
2. Co-Sponsor Student : Money received under this used collectively to fund for the specific recipient.
3. HPN Institutional Fund: The institutional fund from the interested personalities goes towards developing the overall program as well as maintaining the funding for scholarships. This is the ascertain HNSP continuity and longetivity.
4. HPN representative Scholarship Fund: This scholarship fund can be made after receiving the representative status from the HPN Nepal Executive >committee. The representative member can be a patron of the fund. The following are the name list of national and international HPN NSP representativescholarship fund members: The money received under this fund is utilized as per the wish of member. He/she must commit to help at least 1 student in every year. eg. John Scholarship Fund

Profile of HPN National Scholarship Program for Academic Development

Introduction
HPN National Scholarship Program is also known as HPN Nationwide Scholarship Program is a flagship program run by HPN NEPAL Its main goal is to provide resources for education of the under privileged children in rural Nepal.
With approximately 200 volunteers through out the country, HPN NEPAL is a government registered NGO working for the welfare of children and women in Nepal since 2003. It has conducted various community-based programs in order to increase the living standard of the>women and children of rural areas. Nation Wide Scholarship Program shall be a project mainly for the children who are suffering from poverty.


Operation
HPN National Scholarship Program for academic Development operates by the Helping Point Nepal office in Kathmandu. It has an autonomous working committee.

This committee looks overall policy aspects of the program while district co-ordinators implement its core activities.
HPN NEPAL has representatives from the various countries like USA, UK, Germany, Canada, Bangladesh.


Selection Criteria
• Students family is economically poor.
• Students academic performance is promising.
• Students family commits him/her for higher education.
• A girl student is preferred.
• A student from under privileged cast is preferred.
• Preference is given to orphans, homeless, insurgency and flood victims.
• Recommendation of respective principal of the school and two subject teachers is required.
• Recommendation of the respective village chairman or chief district officer is required.
• Scholarship forms will be made available by HPN & HPN NSP and it will be the sole organization to overlook the scholarship program.
• HPN & HPN NSP scholarship working committee is mainly responsible for the overall scholarship program.
• After the selection a student will economically be benefited to study in his/her local school in any class.



What do the students actually receive?
High school education goes beyond and ordinary Nepali family's reach as the per capita income of a family US$ 245 per year. HPN Nation Wide Scholarship

Program provides scholarships to overcome the annual cost for providing education and education materials, including text book, stationeries, etc. HPN Scholarship recipient obtain financial aid through different financial/ scholarship funds made available by the donors and its representatives around the globe. A student receives Rs. 5,000 (US$ 63.82) annually.
The scholarship is allotted from graded 1 to 10 to study in their respective district high schools and selection is completed after the selection criteria is >fulfilled by each student. The selection committee has the full right to continue or discontinue the scholarship funding to the students based upon their academic performance, attitude and commitment to further studies.



NSP Operation Procedure
a. HPN NEPAL formulates HPN NSP Executive Committee called as Board of the Directors.
b. HPN NSP Executive Committee formulates the HPN NSP District Scholarship Committee & HPN NSP District Scholarship Evaluation Committee.
c. HPN NSP District Committee selects the school to provide scholarship and also formulates the HPN NSP School Scholarship Committee (SSC) which nominates the students for HPN NSP scholarship within the criteria.
d. The main roles and responsibilities of SSC is to maintain the decision book ((minuet book) of every meeting of SSC as described in the scholarship letter to principal), detail history of scholarship recipient student, progress report, analysis of the studies of student and send them to HPN NSP >District Scholarship Committee & HPN NSP District Scholarship Evaluation Committee.
e. HPN NSP provides scholarship continuously upto 10th grade once when received the scholarship in any grade but the scholarship recipient student doesn't loose the progress in studies. If student loose the progress or fail in the class, HPN NSP can't afford the scholarship to such student.
f. If the student transfer to another institution, the student will not be beneficial from this facility.
g. While nominating for scholarship, HPN NSP adviced to SSC to consider the following points:
• If the school is Primary: HPN NEPAL advices you to nominate 3 students (1 from grade I, 1 from grade II and 1 from grade III)
• If school is Lower Secondary: HPN NEPAL advices you to nominate 3 students (1 from grade II, 1 from grade IV and 1 from grade V)
• If school is Secondary: HPN NEPAL advices you to nominate 4 students (1 from grade I 1 from grade III, 1 from grade V and 1 from grade VII)
Note: If scholarship recipient student leaves the school by any reason, the SSC has right to nominate another student for scholarship.
h. Students receive Scholarship Certificate & Assistance ship for a long run.
i. All the rights of this scholarship program is reserved to HPN NEPAL.

This program is inaugurated by Minister for General Administration, Population & Works Buddhiman Tamang at Birendra International Convention Center (BICC) in Dec. 30, 2003.
